It looks beautiful but…

I love the snow and like many people I get very excited when it first arrives. Muddy fields and trackways are transformed. I enjoy the stillness, the peace. When it first fell on Friday only tractors could move around on our hills. But along with the snow comes plummeting temperatures so even very small farms like ours are hard work- taps and troughs freeze but animals still need water so several times a day we carry lots of water across the frozen yard for horses, sheep and poultry. For our neighbours with cattle it is a bit of a nightmare.
However it has to be more enjoyable than the floods and constant rain of recent weeks. As long as we don’t get a sudden thaw!
We’re filling up the bird feeders all the time of course. No sign of squirrels in the last few days as I guess they’ve hunkered down somewhere. Hope our rescued hedgehog survives…
