Highs and lows

It has been glorious in and around Hay this week; misty mornings followed by hot sun, and cloudless skies at night allowing us to see bright stars and far away planets in the inky blackness. The apples and plums are ripening and blackberries and elderberries are heavy in the hedgerows. A lovely time of year and judging by our bookings for The Byre many people feel the same.
I should be feeling happy but my much loved JR has a serious lung condition and has been very poorly. It’s so hard when they can’t tell you what’s wrong…
I love her to bits and just want to make her better.
We’re off to Pembrokeshire for a few days. Maybe the sea air will do her good. Let’s hope so. St.David’s is one of our favourite places in all the world.
Meanwhile I drove North again today to visit my mum. Passing through Winforton, I spotted some of my ex pupils waiting for the bus to take them to High School for the first day of term. For some, it’s their first day at “Big School.” Brought a lump to my throat. Time is passing too quickly.
